3rd Fire Drill Next Week

Thanks to all staff for supporting UTS protocols during our first lockdown drill. We have gathered feedback on areas that need attention, such as blinds in need of repair, lights that are difficult to turn off, and spaces where we should refine our safety approach.

For classes that are using the MPR during a lockdown, please exit the building as quickly and safely as possible if getting back to a locked space is too difficult. For a drill, students and staff who need to exit the building could wait outside in the parkette. In a real lockdown, those who have to exit because they cannot find a safe, locked space should proceed to the UTS Emergency shelter in the OISE auditorium at 252 Bloor Street West. If you have any additional observations or suggestions, please share them.

Our final fire drill will take place next week (the week of October 20). The specific time won’t be announced in advance.

OISE MT Candidates

A reminder that the OISE teacher candidates will be on site on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Please share any noteworthy activities in your class that you would like to highlight to the TCs. You can also let us know if it's not a good day for a visit. Please see them as an extra set of hands in your classroom if there are things they can help you with! Last TC classroom visits for 2025: October 30.

Tony Lundy ‘79 and Janet Looker Climate & Environment Solution Fund

Grants for 2025-26 are now open! This fund established by UTS Board Director, Tony Lundy ’79, and his wife, Janet Looker, will provide funding for expenditures, as approved by UTS, for work undertaken by UTS students to develop climate change and environmental solutions. The Fund will be used to defray costs for students developing these solutions.

This grant opportunity can support curricular or co-curricular projects and initiatives. Fall applications are due on October 24. Please encourage any students or student groups working on climate and environmental solutions to submit an application. Nearly $5,000 was awarded to several students/groups last year. If you have any questions, please contact Carole Zamroutian in the Office of Advancement.

Weekly Wellness Tip 02

Welcome to your second weekly wellness tip! Stay tuned for a different tip each week!

The Power of Micro-Breaks

Your brain isn’t built for nonstop focus. Even two minutes away from your desk can recharge you. Try standing up, stretching, or taking a quick walk down the hall between classes. Micro-breaks add up to more energy and focus.

Silver Lining

UTS CWS Teacher Adria Lee and her husband Jay Tolentino had their final wedding celebration in Toronto a few weeks ago. In the photo you can see Adria and Jay (far right) rocking out with their band. The whole evening was a blast!

Current and former UTS staff attendees included Thomas Nachshen (Math), Mike Farley (Geo), Nandita Bajaj (former Head of Admissions), and Ryan Melo (former Teacher Candidate).

Congrats Adria and Jay!
