Fire Drill - Friday, April 10
Fire Drill season is upon us again as we round out the final 3 drills of the 6 annual drills required by the Ministry of Education of Ontario. The construction on the Huron-Washington Parkette is anticipated to start in May and we hope to have 2 of our remaining drills completed before constructions begins. The next drill will be Friday, April 10.
Teachers, please review the fire drill and evacuation protocols here. In summary, during evacuation, students must leave via assigned routes, stay together, remain quiet, and leave belongings behind. Teachers take the red attendance folder (blue only if red is missing), ensure no one is left behind, and exit last, closing but not locking doors. Classes proceed in single file to the designated outdoor meeting spot, where students must line up in front of their teacher. Teachers take attendance and send a student runner to report. Teachers signal status with a green card (all present) or red card (missing students). Students must not wander. Wait for the all-clear before returning. Afterward, return calmly to class and reattach red folders to classroom walls.
The fifth drill is scheduled the week of April 20. For the last drill, we will likely have to assemble on an alternate site near the Robarts Library. At the April 29 staff meeting we will go through the new protocols for the Parkette.
