Fridge Clear Out

Please remember to clear all your perishable food items from office and staff room fridges before you leave for the break.

First Week of F1 School Schedule for September 3 to 5

As we prepare to welcome our incoming F1 students in the fall, we want to highlight the importance of using the first week to build community, communicate expectations and introduce tools and strategies that will support student success throughout the year.

Starting at UTS can be a big adjustment for many students, especially given that they are (often for the first time):

The youngest in a secondary school setting
Taking 10 courses
Learning alongside high-achieving peers
Often commuting long distances
Navigating tumbled classes

With this in mind, we hope that all F1 classes in the first week will include:

Community-building activities
Mindset-setting and encouragement
Clear communication of classroom expectations
A heads-up on parts of the year that may be challenging
Introduction to useful tools, strategies and resources
Information on human supports available at school

To further support this transition, we’ll be sharing a classroom visit schedule in August that will include myself, our F1 Guidance Counsellors (Jen Kelly and Ronell Matthews), Student Success Teacher, Social Workers and our School Nurse. These visits are meant to ensure every student has early and welcoming exposure to the wide range of supports available to them.

CWS Department Celebrating Members Who are Leaving

Last Friday members of the CWS department bid farewell to Oliver Cusimano (who’s leaving us for adventures in Berlin) and wished Gowsi Thirunavukkarasu good luck with her maternity leave.
