October 20, 2025 School Holiday Closure

Dear UTS Staff,

Open House is a cornerstone of our Outreach and Admissions strategy, and its success is a direct reflection of your dedication. Your commitment to creating a welcoming, informative, and engaging experience for prospective families has made Open House the vibrant event it has become.

We recognize that beyond the required participation of teachers and select business and operations staff – the preparation of activities, materials, and programming on top of your full workloads – takes significant time and energy. We are deeply grateful for the effort and care you bring to this important event.

In recognition of your contributions, Monday, October 20 will be designated as a school holiday. This day is intended to give everyone a well-deserved opportunity to pause and recharge following the demands of Open House. Please note that the school will be closed on this day.

Thank you once again for your continued commitment and support.

Walk good,

Kim Tavares
Deputy Principal

Summary of School Schedules

Here is the summary of UTS schedules for 2025-26 including regular, late start, assembly and special day schedules as well as the schedules for the Safe Schools Assembly and other special events schedules. Please note that there may still be adjustments to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and the House Track Day schedules as the speakers and U of T (respectively) still have details to confirm.

Coverage Request and Standby Coverage for Experiential Education Trips September 8 to 12

From September 8 to 12 all grades, except M4s, will be going on experiential learning experiences. Teachers who are supervising trips are kindly requested to submit their coverage requests on the Data Hub as soon as possible or by September 4 at the latest. Teachers who are not supervising an experiential education trip will be on standby coverage if they have a regularly scheduled class with a grade that is away.

Teachers who are not away supervising experiential education, are kindly asked to be easily available for standby coverage and to notify the main office regarding their whereabouts if they are not in their staff office. The Main Office will do their best to let teachers know their coverage assignments prior to the periods they are needed. Thanks for your support of the UTS experiential learning, trips and co-curricular programs!

For teachers who have classes with a majority of students who are away but which have some out of grade students, please choose whether you will:

  • Let Jenny Pitt-Lainsbury, Vice Principal of Academic Operations, and the Main Office staff know you will be working with the out of grade student(s) by emailing mainoffice@utschools.ca and sharing the name(s) of the student(s) are where you will be working with them. Please also confirm they are with you when the class starts so that the Main Office can contact families if the child is away. The Main Office will not assign you a standby coverage in this case.

  • Consult with Rebecca Courtney, Director of Library Services, first and if there is room in the library, provide the list of students to Rebecca and the Main Office. Students will be required to sign in at the Main Office and then report to Ms. Courtney the library for a study period.

Lunch-time Room Bookings for Testing and Small Teacher-Student Meetings

During Lunch, rooms 321 and 318 are available for one-on-one or small group teacher-student meetings and room 216 is available as a silent space for teacher-supervised assessments. Teachers can sign up for times in the spaces using this spreadsheet. This arrangement is a result of the teacher requests at June PD for more spaces for occasional meetings with students and we will refine the booking process and sharing of the spaces over the school year. Please address any questions to jpittlainsbury@utschools.ca. Suggestions welcome!

Staff Meeting September 2

We will meet in the Withrow Auditorium at 2:15 p.m. for the opening staff meeting. In preparation for the meeting, please review the: Local Walking Excursion Policy, Staff Handbook and Teacher Handbook

Correction to the Safe Schools Assembly September 5

For the Safe Schools Assemblies on Friday, September 5 the M3s will be joining the M4-S6 for the Block I assembly rather than going to the assembly block J with the Foundation students. This has been corrected in the UTS Schedules and the UTS Events Day 1 Schedule for September 5 in the Google calendar. It will be corrected before September 5 in the M3 student and teacher Google schedules. Thank for your patience as we align calendars!
